winter is back

yesterday was a high of 9 with windchills of about -20 in the morning (cold enough to cancel schools in the area). Now tomorrow we're testing scott's theory again. they are predicting 8-12 inches tonight through tomorrow night, which means either 4-6 or 18+. Lets see if we make it to the play at the wharton center tomorrow...predictions?

Statement as of 3:27 AM EST on January 31, 2008

... Snow tonight and Friday...

... Heavy Snow Warning in effect from 7 PM this evening to 7 PM
EST Friday...

The National Weather Service has issued a Heavy
Snow Warning for lower Michigan... which is in effect from 7 PM this evening to 7 PM
EST Friday. This is an upgrade of the Winter Storm Watch.

Snow will develop this evening and continue through Friday. The
snow may be heavy at times and will accumulate 8 to 12 inches by
Friday night. Visibilities will frequently be below a mile which
will make for hazardous travel.

A Heavy Snow Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast
that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If
you must travel... keep an extra flashlight... food... and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency.

I think I need a refresher on Scott's theory. I know about the "half the amount" part but it sounds like he has added something to account for the 18"

I remember when I lived in E.Lansing and walked to work one evening during similar weather. The sidewalks were nowhere to be seen so I had to walk in the tire tracks from the few cars that were on the roads.

At one point, when it was so cold, I closed my eyes against a gust and they immediately froze shut. I couldn't get them open and I was afraid of being hit by a car. It probably lasted less than a minute but it seemed like forever before I could get my mittens off and warm up my face enough to open my eyes.
